Rambam Provides Scholarships for Young Doctors
The 2019 Physicians Fellowship Scholarship Ceremony, sponsored by Rambam Knowledge Center and Rambam Health Care Campus administration, took place this year for the eleventh time. The Fellowship Scholarship helps physicians to study at leading medical institutions abroad, each working in their own fields to address issues facing the world of modern medicine.
The Fellowship Scholarship began in 2007, when the committee responsible for selecting the winners chose to focus on young doctors specializing in clinical and research fields. This program trains these doctors to take active roles in the future.
Since 2007, this enterprise has been active in encouraging clinical research. Its founders include Dr. Yaron Bar-El (z”l), a former Deputy Director of the hospital, Professor Karl Skorecki, former Director of Medical and Research Development and now the Dean of the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine of Bar‑Ilan University in the Galilee, and Attorney Ziva Besser, Director of the Rambam Knowledge Center.
Members of the award selection committee include Professor Zohar Keidar, Chairman of the Committee and Director of the Department of Nuclear Medicine, Dr. Michael Halberthal, Director of Rambam Health Care Campus, Dr. Michal Mekel, Deputy Director of the hospital and the first recipient of the Fellowship in 2007, and Adv. Ziva Besser.
This year there were five award recipients: Dr. Daniel Braunold from the Department of Anesthesiology, Dr. Haggai Bar-Yoseph from the Gastroenterology Institute, Dr. Eyal Ginesin from the Division of Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Emad Matanis from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Dr. Michael Mimouni from the Department of Ophthalmology.
Each of the winners is already involved in a number of advanced stage studies and are expected to train in the best centers in the United States, Canada, and England. At the end of their training, they will return to Rambam to promote its treatment and research.
To date, 65 scholarships have been distributed to physicians in the amount of NIS 1,230,000, sponsored by Rambam Knowledge Center, the hospital administration, the Rambam Friends Association, the Atidim Scholarship, and the Dr. Michael Besser Memorial Scholarship.
